Water Availability
At Geo Costa Rica, we provide a comprehensive service to manage the water availability required for project development through the complete water concession process. We specialize in permit processing for the use of groundwater and surface water, whether through the capture of water from rivers, streams, creeks, springs or by drilling water wells.

Why Is Water Availability Important?
Costa Rica is a country with abundant water resources; however, some municipalities have faced challenges in granting construction permits due to the lack of water availability in the area where a project is planned. Water availability is a decisive factor in obtaining construction permits, as access to this resource must be guaranteed before a project can proceed.
Water Availability Process
At Geo Costa Rica, we manage the entire process to ensure that your project has the required water availability. The process includes:
- Water Concession Request: We handle the application before the Water Directorate (DA) of MINAE to ensure compliance with all legal and environmental requirements for water resource use.
- Hydrogeological Studies: If needed, we conduct hydrogeological studies for the Water Directorate (DA) of MINAE to evaluate the feasibility of the project based on groundwater resources.
- Environmental Viability through SETENA: We process environmental approvals before SETENA, ensuring compliance with regulations and promoting best practices for sustainable water use.
- Surface and Groundwater Capture: We manage permits for the use of surface water (rivers, streams, etc.) as well as the drilling of groundwater wells, depending on the project needs.
- Collaboration with Drilling Companies: Thanks to our strategic partnerships with drilling companies nationwide, we offer a complete well drilling service to guarantee water supply for your project.
Water Availability and Its Importance for Project Development
The approval to develop a project is granted by municipalities based on the availability of water, which must be certified by Acueductos y Alcantarillados (AyA) or by ASADAS (Community Water and Sewer Management Associations), which provide water in the areas where the projects will be developed.
Our Comprehensive Approach
At Geo Costa Rica, we offer technical and legal consulting to manage the Water Concession, environmental viability, and carry out all necessary procedures to ensure that your project complies with all legal and environmental requirements. From the initial request to the final resolution, we handle the entire process, ensuring that water availability is approved and guaranteed.
