Who Requires a Detailed Report?
This procedure applies to projects that may impact groundwater resources or require determining the aquifer’s capacity for water concessions, drilling, or drainage systems. SENARA requires this type of study when there is insufficient existing data or when site conditions are hydrogeologically complex.
Industrial and Commercial Projects
Activities involving water use or potential risk of subsurface contamination.
Intensive Agriculture
Farms using agrochemicals or irrigation systems that require hydrogeological control.
Urban Developments
Residential or mixed-use projects with wells or septic systems located in vulnerable areas.
SENARA Requirements and Criteria
The Detailed Report must comply with the Terms of Reference established by SENARA, which define the procedures for field sampling, laboratory analysis, pumping tests, and groundwater flow modeling. The study must be prepared by a licensed professional registered with SENARA and validated by the Department of Research and Water Management (DIGH).
- Includes field surveys and hydraulic testing.
- Determines aquifer permeability and recharge parameters.
- Required for water concessions and sanitary sewer exemptions.
- Must be submitted using SENARA’s official technical formats.
How Does Geo Costa Rica Support This Process?
At Geo Costa Rica, we have proven experience in preparing detailed hydrogeological studies under SENARA guidelines. We handle the entire process — from field data collection to the interpretation and submission of the technical report.
1. Fieldwork
Pumping tests, discharge measurements, piezometric surveys, and water quality sampling.
2. Technical Analysis
Data processing, hydrogeological interpretation, and calculation of hydraulic parameters.
3. Coordination with SENARA
We submit the study to the DIGH and follow up until the official report is issued.
Do You Need to Process Your Detailed Report Before SENARA?
At Geo Costa Rica, we provide comprehensive support at every stage of the process — from field data collection to technical submission before the DIGH. We ensure compliance, efficiency, and proven technical reliability.
