Aquifer Protection (SENARA)

Aquifer protection is a technical and preventive measure established by the National Service of Subterranean Waters, Irrigation and Drainage (SENARA) to preserve the quality and recharge capacity of groundwater resources. This process defines restriction and recharge areas, promoting sustainable land development.

Why is aquifer protection carried out?

Aquifer protection is implemented to ensure the sustainability of water resources against threats such as pollution, overexploitation, and unregulated land occupation. It is a technical requirement requested by SENARA for projects developed over recharge or vulnerable zones.

  • Prevention of groundwater contamination from urban or industrial activities.
  • Assessment of the hydrogeological vulnerability of the site.
